Definition of Glycosylation

There are more than 20 post-translational modification processes of proteins in eukaryotic cells, including Ubiquitination, Phosphorylation, Plycosylation, Liposylation, Methylation and  Acetylation. After mRNA is translated into protein, the process of covalent modification of individual amino acid residues on protein, that is, the process of protein post-translational modification, is particularly important. It makes the structure of protein more complex, the function more perfect, the regulation more fine and the function more specific.

Definition of Glycosylation: Glycosylation is the process of adding sugars to proteins or lipids under the control of enzymes, which occurs in the endoplasmic reticulum. Under the action of glycosyltransferase, sugar is transferred to protein and forms glycosidic bonds with amino acid residues on protein. Proteins undergo glycosylation to form glycoproteins. Glycosylation is an important modification of protein and plays a role in regulating protein function.
